The Ganek Immersive Studio
The Ganek Immersive Studio is made possible through the generosity of the Ganek Family Foundation, and is sponsored by Apple. Located within the University of Southern California in the School of Cinematic Arts, the Ganek Immersive Studio is an incubator for experimentation in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, XR, and immersive technology.
Philosophy
The Ganek Immersive Studio focuses on producing cinematic experiences with an emphasis on strong storytelling and compelling immersion. Open to live-action, animated, and real-time proposals, we live at the intersection of technology and media to research, experiment, and execute on the immersive experiences of tomorrow.
Leveraging cutting-edge software, the latest in stereoscopic filming, and fully in-house production, post-production, and FX workflows, the Ganek Studio exists to push the boundaries of immersive cinema—and to inspire and train the filmmakers who will shape its future.
Housed in the School of Cinematic Arts, the Ganek Studio serves as a hub for all backgrounds and expertise at USC, collaborating with students, staff, and faculty from the Viterbi School of Engineering, the Marshall School of Business, the Iovine and Young Academy for Innovation, the Kaufman School of Dance, the School of Dramatic Arts, and all departments within the School of Cinematic Arts.
Current Projects
The studio produces 4-8 projects per year taken from student submissions, in addition to 2-4 studio-led projects that aim to push the boundaries of live production and VFX workflow in immersive storytelling. Students are also invited on project-basis to work on their own experimentation and research relating to AR/VR/XR.
