The Ganek Immersive Studio

The Ganek Immersive Studio is made possible through the generosity of the Ganek Family Foundation, and is sponsored by Apple. Located within the University of Southern California in the School of Cinematic Arts, the Ganek Immersive Studio is an incubator for experimentation in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, XR, and immersive technology.

Philosophy

The Ganek Immersive Studio focuses on producing cinematic experiences with an emphasis on strong storytelling and compelling interactive experiences. We aim to explore technological innovation and how it can enhance the user experience. The studio employs the use of state-of-the-art software and the latest stereoscopic filming technology with the goal of training the next generation of interactive filmmakers.

The studio serves as a hub for students of all backgrounds and majors, collaborating with students, staff, and faculty from the Viterbi School of Engineering, the Marshall School of Business, the Iovine and Young Academy, the Kaufman School of Dance, the School of Dramatic Arts, and all departments within the School of Cinematic Arts.

Projects

The studio produces 4-8 projects per year taken from student submissions, in addition to 2-4 studio-led projects that aim to push the boundaries of live production and VFX workflow in immersive storytelling. Students are also invited on project-basis to work on their own experimentation and research relating to AR/VR/XR.
